Sport Jacket Style No. 6063-Spinnerin Volume 150 (1961)

This pattern is based on vintage sizing guidelines, which may differ from modern sizing.  Please look at the Sizing Guide for Spinnerin Vol. 150 for information.  



These directions are for size 12.  Changes for sizes 14 and 16 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS

SPINNERIN Mohair 1001, 1-oz balls-10(11-12)
1 pair each of needles Nos. 7 and 11
6 buttons

GAUGE: 3 sts=1 inch     4-1/2 rows=1 inch

PATTERN STITCH on an even number of sts
Row 1: K1, *K the 2nd st on needle through back of st, K the first st through front, slip both sts off needle; repeat from * across row, end K1.  Rows 2 and 4: Purl.  Row 3: K2, *cross next 2 sts as in Row 1; repeat from * across row, end K2.  Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.

BACK: With No. 7 needles cast on 52(56-60) sts.  Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 3 inches.  Change to No. 11 needles and work in pattern until back measures 12(12-1/2-13) inches including the ribbing.  Armholes: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows then bind off 1 st at tbeg of next 4 rows.  Work on the 44(48-52) sts until armholes measure straight up 8(8-1/2-9) inches.  Shoulders: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 4 rows then bind off 3(5-7) sts ab beg of next 2 rows.  Slip remaining 14 sts on a holder.

LEFT FRONT: With No. 7  needles cast on 33(35-37) sts; work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 3 inches--every other row starts and ends with K1, every other with P1.  Place 7 sts for front band on a holder.  Change to No. 11 needles and work in pattern on the 26(28-30) sts until front measures 12(12-1/2-13) inches.  Armhole: Bind off 2 sts at armhole edge then dec 1 st at same edge twice; work on the 22(24-26) sts until armhole measures 6(6-1/2-7) inches.  Neck: Bind off 2 sts at neck edge then dec 1 st at same edge every row 5 times at the same time when armhole measures same as back bind off to shape shoulders, 6 sts twice and 3(5-7) sts once to match back.  Front Band: With No. 7 needles, work in ribbing on the 7 sts until band measures slightly stretched same as front to start of neck shaping--slip sts on a holder, break yarn.  Mark position of 6 buttons placing the first in center of ribbing and the last close to top edge.

RIGHT FRONT:  Work same as left front reversing the shaping and making buttonholes opposite markers as follows: Work 3 sts, bind off 1 st, work to end of row.  Next row cast on 1 st over bound-off st.  Do not break yarn after completing front band.
Steam each piece.  Do not press.  Sew shoulder seams.

COLLAR:  With No. 7 needles starting at right front, rib 7 sts for band.  Work in ribbing on the 49 sts until collar measures 3-1/2 inches front start; bind off loosely in ribbing.

SLEEVES: With No. 7 needles, cast on 32(34-36) sts.  Work in ribbing for 2 inches.  Change to No 11 needles and work in pattern inc 1 st at each side every 2 inches 4 times.  Work on the 40(42-44)  sts until sleeve measures 12-1/2(13-13-1/2) inches including the ribbing.  Cap: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows then bind off 1 st at beg of next 14(16-18) rows; bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows; bind off remaining 10 sts.

FINISHING: Sew front bands to sweater matching buttonholes to markers.  Sew.


This is exactly how the pattern ends in the booklet.  I would assume it is to be assembled as any standard sweater pattern would be.
