Woman's Continental Design Style No. 6026-Spinnerin Volume 150 (1961)

This pattern is based on vintage sizing guidelines, which may differ from modern sizing.  Please look at the Sizing Guide for Spinnerin Vol. 150 for information.



These directions are for size 12.  Changes for sizes 14, 16 and 18 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS

SPINNERIN Nylaine Germantown Knitting Worsted 4-oz. skeins--4(5-5-6)
1 pair each of needles Nos. 5 and 9
6 buttons

GAUGE: 4-1/2 sts=1 inch     6 rows=1 inch

BACK: With No. 5 needles, cast on 0(84-88-92) sts.  Work in stockinette st for 1 inch, end with a K-row.  K next row to form a ridge for hem then change to No. 9 needles and continue in stockinette st until back measures 15(15-16-16) inches from ridge--end with a P-row.  Raglan Shaping: K3, Sl 1, K1, psso, K to last 5 sts, K2 tog, K3.  P next row.  Repeat these 2 rows 28(30-32-34) times more; bind off remaining 22 sts.

RIGHT FRONT: With No. 5 needles, cast on 34(36-38-40) sts.  Work hem as for back then change to No. 9 needles and work until front measures same as back.  Raglan Shaping: K to last 5 sts, K2 tog, K3.  P back.  Repeat these 2 rows until all sts are dec at the same time when armhole measures about 7(7-7-1/2-7-1/2) inches straight up Shape Neck by binding off 2 sts from neck edge then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times.

LEFT FRONT:  Work same as right front reversing the shaping.

SLEEVES: With No. 5 needles, cast on 36(38-40-42) sts.  Work hem as for back then change to No. 9 needles; work 2 inches then inc 1 st at each side every 6th row 8 times, then every 4th row 6(7-8-9) times; work on the 64(68-72-76) sts until sleeve measures 17(17-18-18) inches from ridge.  Shape raglan as for back at the same time when there are 10 sts left dec 2 sts in center for 4 rows; bind off last 2 sts.

FINISHING:  Sew raglan, sleeve and side seams, sew hems.  Left Front Border: With No. 5 needles and with right side facing you, pick up and K 87(87-91-91) sts along front edge--pick up about 4 sts for every 6 rows.  Work in stockinette st for 3 more rows then work beading as follows: K1, *yo, K2 tog; repeat from * across row.  P back then work in pattern for 2 inches, end at lower edge.
Pattern Stitch a multiple of 4 sts plus 3.
Row 1: *K1, yo, Sl 1; repeat from * across row, end K1.
Row 2: K1, *K2 tog, yo, Sl 1; repeat from *, end K2 tog, K1.
Row 3: K1, *yo, Sl 1, K2 tog; repeat from *, end yo.  Sl 1, K1.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern.  Note: When checking the number of sts the yo and the Sl-st count as 1.  P1 row.
 Work beading as before then work 8 rows of stockinette st; bind off.
Right Front Band: Work same as left band until pattern measures 1 inch ending at lower edge.  Work buttonholes as follows: Work 8(8-12-12) sts, *bind off 4 sts, work 10 sts; repeat from * 4 times more, end bind off 4, work last 5 sts.  Next row cast on 4 over the bound-off sts.  Continue in pattern--be sure to work K1 instead of K2 tog on the cast on stitches in order to have the same number of sts as before.  Complete band to correspond to left band.  Collar: With No. 5 needles, cast on 63(63-67-67) sts; work in pattern for 4 inches--leave sts on needle, break yarn.  Edging: With No. 5 needles, starting at cast-on edge pick up and K 24 sts along short edge, K across the 63 sts on needle, pick up and K 24 sts along other short edge; work beading on next row purling instead of knitting.  Work 8 rows of stockinette st then bind off.  Turn under edging on collar and on fronts and sew on wrong side; sew on collar matching the inside beading on sweater.  Sew a snap or make a tiny loop and sew a button for closing at top edge.  Sew around button holes.  Steam, if necessary.
